it's late, or early.

We went to the races today! The dragstrip in Tucson is trying out having little car shows every month, and this time our club was the "host". We rounded up 16 cars, some of them not really in the club, but that didn't matter, and drove up to the strip, taking the scenic route. We got in for free, which was quite a $$$ savings.

The races were a bit boring because of the usual delays, but we had fun anyways. About 930 we decided it was time for the last of us to go, so about 6 cars left after some bathroom delays. As we were heading down the road to the highway, I was in the rear, and noticed one of the other cars from our group on the side of the road. I guess the other folks thought he was just waiting for us, but he had mentioned earlier that he had been having fuel problems, so I stopped and sure enough he was stranded.

He figured the fuel pump was plugged up again like it had been a month or so before when he didn't make it to a local show, and we saw him towing the car home on our way to that show. So we pulled the top off the pump, and it was not plugged up, but one of the valves had fallen out! so we put it back in, staked it as best as we could with a screwdriver, put it back together, and drove home.

It's nice to be able to fix stuff sometimes and have it work! the car is a 54 Caddy, so it's a bit different from modern cars, which have the fuel pump inside the gas tank and you can't fix it very easily on the side of the road.

I also washed some more of our cars this morning, and got wife's old Dodge running again, it's been sitting a long time.
