what a fun adventure we had today. D came over this morning, and he and I and little Gary headed over to C's house with the truck and trailer, then up towards the greater Dragoon metropolitan area (they have a post office!). When we got to the house that D navigated us to, C asked "weren't there TWO ramps on the trailer?"

We looked over the Stude, and decided it definitely was not worth the $1000 the guy was asking for it, but C eventually offered him 500 and they settled on 600. The car had a lot more rust than D said, which didn't surprise me at all. But it had been sort of cheap "restored" years before (then driven into something pretty hard), so the paint over most of the car is still one color and not too faded, and the interior can be used mostly as-is except for the fallen headliner. I brought an air tank and since the tires all had tubes in them, they filled up and we were able to push the car around and find a suitable substitute ramp and winch the car up on the trailer with no problem.

On the way back, we searched the side of the road for the other ramp, but didn't find it....until we were almost to our turnoff from the freeway, and C and I both saw it on the shoulder on the other side. I made a u turn at the exit, and we picked it up and got lunch then went home to C's shop and dropped the car off.

although we had to spend some time looking it over and talking about what to do with it and taking all the stuff out of it. There were a bunch of rolls of car upholstery cloth and vinyl in it, we trashed all the cloth and kept some red and some cream colored vinyl--C said he could use the cream in his 31 (he has a sewing machine and can do auto trimming too).

The pic above shows little Gary and D looking at something interesting on the engine.

The plan for the car is to make it into a gasser, which was a rather fast class of drag racer popular from the mid 50s to the mid 60s.
